Does Snapchat have an official API for public profiles?+

Yes — Snap's Public Profile API, part of the Snapchat Marketing API. Snap's Get Started page (developers.snap.com/marketing-api/Public-Profile-API/GetStarted) says it "is currently allowlist only": you need a Snap business account and an OAuth app, then Snap allowlists your client ID. Snap notes its public endpoints "return only a subset of publicly available information." Captapi needs no Snap account — send a username with your Captapi key.

Does the Snapchat API return stories?+

Yes, when the profile has a live public story. story.snapList carries each snap's snapId, mediaType (image or video), mediaUrl, mediaPreviewUrl and publishedAt; hasStory is false when there is none. Curated highlights and Spotlight posts come back as separate lists. Private snaps, chats and friend lists are not available — only what Snapchat shows on the public web profile.

What do I get for a regular (non-creator) Snapchat account?+

Snapchat's web page only exposes username, displayName, snapcode and the Bitmoji avatar for regular accounts, so that is what you get — no subscriber count or story. A username with no public web profile returns 404 and costs 0 credits.
